Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree said Liberals will amend Bill C-22 after criticism over encryption and metadata retention. The bill would require electronic service providers to build capabilities and retain client data for up to one year for police/CSIS access with a judicial warrant. He said the government will clarify metadata definitions and that it will not force companies to undermine encryption, and is considering compensation for affected firms.
