What is an economic calendar?
An economic calendar lists the scheduled release dates and times of official economic statistics and central bank decisions. Traders and analysts use it to know in advance when market-moving numbers like inflation, jobs data, or a Federal Reserve rate decision will be published.
What time are US economic releases published?
Most major US statistics come out at 8:30 AM Eastern Time: CPI, PPI, the jobs report, GDP, PCE, retail sales, and weekly jobless claims. JOLTS job openings are published at 10:00 AM ET. FOMC rate decisions are announced at 2:00 PM ET, followed by a press conference at 2:30 PM ET.
What is the FOMC and what is the SEP?
The Federal Open Market Committee is the body of the Federal Reserve that sets US interest rates. It meets eight times a year. Four of those meetings also publish the Summary of Economic Projections, known as the dot plot, which shows where committee members expect rates, inflation, and growth to go.
