AstraZeneca PLC Announces Trixeo Approved In EU For Asthma

AstraZeneca received EU approval for Trixeo Aerosphere, a triple-combination asthma inhaler for patients aged 12+ with uncontrolled asthma. The therapy, backed by Phase III trial data, is already marketed as Breztri in other regions. This approval strengthens AstraZeneca's respiratory portfolio and growth strategy.

Approval based on Phase III trials showing lung function improvements and reduced severe exacerbations. The drug is also approved in the US and Japan, with reviews ongoing in China. AstraZeneca's tozorakimab showed a lower annualized rate of moderate/severe COPD exacerbations vs. placebo in two phase 3 trials, according to data in The New England Journal of Medicine. The trials included over 1,700 patients with COPD and a history of exacerbations. The drug demonstrated efficacy across blood eosinophil counts and smoking status, with a favorable safety profile. AstraZeneca anticipates an FDA decision in Q1 2027.
