CALGARY, AB, Nov. 3, 2026 /CNW/ -- Canadian Pacific Kansas City (TSX: CP) (NYSE: CP) (CPKC) said today it has set new October monthly records for transporting grain and grain products across Canada and the United States.
In Canada, CPKC moved 3.26 million metric tonnes (MMT) and 33,822 carloads of grain and grain products in October 2026, the third record month in a row to begin the 2026-2027 crop year. These records beat previous totals reached in October 2022.
Through Week 13, CPKC has transported more than 8.5 MMT and 88,064 carloads of Canadian grain and grain products.
In the United States, CPKC moved 2.65 MMT and 27,739 carloads of grain and grain products in October 2026, beating the previous high set in October 2024. U.S. monthly grain records have been set in five of the last six months – May, June, July, September and October.
Combined in Canadian and U.S. grain, October 2026 set all-time records for total carloads and metric tonnes transported in a single month.

The 30-second read
Why it matters
The operating metrics can influence near-term sentiment around rail freight demand and network utilization for the new crop year, but without financial guidance the impact is likely incremental.
Market read
Traders may use the record grain throughput as a positive demand signal for rail volumes, but the lack of margin or guidance limits decision-making impact.
What to watch
The article provides volumes but no pricing, margins, or guidance, so the market may discount it if unit economics are unclear.
Background
CPKC says it set new October monthly records for transporting grain and grain products across Canada and the U.S., and references its 2026-2027 Grain Service Outlook Report released July 31, 2026.
Ticker impact
Canadian Pacific Kansas City reports October 2026 grain volumes and carloads, setting all-time monthly records in Canada and the U.S.
Likely modest positive bias as traders price in stronger rail freight volumes for the crop season.
The release is a company-specific operating update with multiple record-setting volume datapoints, but it is not a financial guidance or earnings print.
Market effects
Supports sentiment for North American rail freight tied to grain logistics, though it is not a sector-wide dataset.
Positive read-through for Canada-U.S. grain supply chain activity and rail utilization.
Limited direct global impact beyond signaling North American grain export logistics strength.
Counterpoint
Record carloads may reflect crop size and seasonal factors more than durable share gains, limiting equity upside versus broader macro grain expectations.
