TSMC says it is evaluating Texas sites for new chip fab and possible role in Elon Musk’s Terafab project

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. announced that it is assessing locations in Texas for additional chip‑fabrication capacity and is in talks to participate in Elon Musk’s proposed Terafab complex. The comments came after the company posted a record third‑quarter net profit of NT$763.1 billion (about $24 billion) and revenue of NT$1.49 trillion (about $46 billion), both driven by AI demand. CEO C.C. Wei said the company has sent teams to Texas for evaluation and any Texas plant would be operated by TSMC.

The company’s stated annual capex budget of $60 billion‑$64 billion for the year, up from $52 billion‑$56 billion, signals higher spending that could boost demand for equipment suppliers and affect investors in the semiconductor supply chain (the company says the budget is for this year).
