Baird downgrades Heartland Express and Werner Enterprises amid trucking industry headwinds

Baird lowered its rating on Heartland Express (HTLD) to Neutral from Outperform and cut the price target to $12.00 from $16.00. The analyst also downgraded Werner Enterprises (WERN). The downgrade cites higher fuel prices, rising interest rates and growing operating costs that have hurt revenue and stock performance in the truckload sector.

The reduced price target and neutral rating suggest further downside pressure on HTLD and WERN shares. Investors may reassess exposure to these carriers as macro‑driven cost pressures persist.
