FDA grants Fast Track designation to SAB‑142 for Stage 3 type 1 diabetes

SAB Biotherapeutics announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has awarded Fast Track status to its candidate SAB‑142, a human anti‑thymocyte immunoglobulin for newly diagnosed Stage 3 type 1 diabetes. The designation is intended to accelerate development and regulatory review. SAB‑142 is currently in a registrational Phase 2b SAFEGUARD trial, with enrollment expected to finish in the fourth quarter of 2026 and topline results projected for the second half of 2027.

The Fast Track designation could shorten the timeline to market and improve the company’s valuation, as reflected by a 6% pre‑market price gain. The accelerated path may also increase the likelihood of earlier patient access and potential revenue streams if the trial succeeds.
