Prudential’s Japan subsidiaries receive extended suspension and improvement orders

Japan’s Financial Services Agency issued new business suspension orders for Prudential of Japan and a partial suspension for Gibraltar Life Insurance, both lasting until January 31, 2027. The regulator also required Prudential Holdings of Japan to submit a business improvement plan by the end of November 2026. Prudential said the units remain financially sound and will discuss the financial impact on a conference call.

The company projects a reduction of roughly $1 billion to $1.3 billion in pretax adjusted operating income for 2026‑2027 because of the halted sales in Japan, according to its own guidance. Gibraltar’s partial suspension alone is expected to cut pretax adjusted operating income by about $275 million across 2026‑2027.
