Takeda rolls out new narcolepsy drug in Japan and China

Takeda Pharmaceutical has introduced ORZEYFUL, an oral orexin‑receptor‑2 agonist, for narcolepsy type 1 patients in Japan and China. The medicine, discovered by Takeda researchers, is the first of its class to target the underlying orexin deficiency. Takeda says the product will become available in the United States next month after completing regulatory steps. The company is also preparing submissions to other health authorities worldwide.

The launch opens two large Asian markets to Takeda’s first disease‑targeting therapy for narcolepsy, which could add new revenue streams. The upcoming U.S. launch may further expand sales if the drug gains market acceptance.
