Anup Bagchi assumes role as MD & CEO of HDFC Bank amid governance and growth challenges

HDFC Bank announced that Anup Bagchi took charge as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer on 27 Oct 2026, succeeding Sashidhar Jagdishan who stepped down on 26 Oct 2026. The transition coincides with the departure of Deputy MD Kaizad Bharucha (effective 31 Dec 2026) and a change of CFO to Puneet Sharma on 1 Dec 2026. The bank reported a 4.7% YoY rise in Q2 FY27 net profit to Rs 19,510 cr and a 9.7% increase in net interest income to Rs 34,620 cr.

The leadership change may affect investor confidence and governance perception, potentially influencing HDFC Bank’s share price and cost of capital. The new CEO will need to address ongoing internal probes and integration of the HDFC merger while sustaining profit growth (source 5).
