Broadcom to offer up to $42 billion in financing for Anthropic’s AI compute lease

Broadcom disclosed a conditional financing mechanism that could allow Anthropic to issue up to $42 billion of convertible debt to fund its AI computing capacity lease. The financing would cover roughly one‑third of Anthropic’s $125.2 billion five‑year lease commitments and Broadcom also may guarantee up to $29 billion of equipment‑lease obligations. The arrangement would make Anthropic Broadcom’s largest chip‑design customer by 2027, deepening the AI lab’s reliance on the chipmaker.

Broadcom expects the deal to boost its AI semiconductor revenue, projected at about $115 billion in 2027, while exposing it to up to $29 billion of liability. Anthropic gains access to needed compute capacity but increases its dependence on a single supplier and lender.
