Qualcomm and Huawei sign multi‑year cross‑licensing pact, with Qualcomm paying for select Huawei patents

On 5 Oct 2026 Qualcomm and Huawei announced a multi‑year agreement that swaps patent rights in 5G, computing, AI and networking. Qualcomm will also purchase access to more than 680 Huawei patents that are registered in the United States, while Huawei retains rights elsewhere. The deal reverses a 25‑year cash‑flow pattern, making Qualcomm the payer for the first time.

Qualcomm says the purchase gives it technology needed for the post‑Moore era, helping offset pressure from Apple and advanced‑node shortages. Huawei expects its total cumulative licensing revenue to rise above 6.9 billion USD as a result of the agreement.
