EMA panel recommends EU authorization for Ascendis’ weekly achondroplasia therapy

On Oct. 16, 2026, the EMA’s CHMP issued a positive opinion supporting EU marketing authorization for Ascendis Pharma’s once-weekly TransCon CNP for pediatric achondroplasia patients aged 2 and above with open growth plates. The European Commission is expected to make the final decision during Q4 2026. If authorization is granted, Ascendis expects to begin the first EU launch in Germany during Q1 2027 under the YUVIWEL brand.

The recommendation moves Ascendis’ therapy closer to potential EU commercialization, but the European Commission still must decide on authorization. Ascendis expects Germany to be the first EU market during Q1 2027 if approval is granted.

  • 1The CHMP recommendation followed review of an application containing data from three randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials and open-label extensions lasting up to three years.
  • 2Ascendis expects the European Commission’s final decision during Q4 2026.
  • 3Subject to authorization, Ascendis expects the first EU launch in Germany during Q1 2027 under the YUVIWEL name.
  • 4The FDA approved TransCon CNP in the U.S. in February 2026.
