Broadcom commits up to $42 billion to finance Anthropic AI capacity

Anthropic’s IPO prospectus disclosed that Broadcom agreed to provide up to $42 billion of financing for the AI developer’s infrastructure buildout. The facility is structured as convertible notes and could make Broadcom both a supplier and creditor to Anthropic as the latter expands its TPU capacity.

The arrangement links Broadcom’s AI infrastructure sales more closely to Anthropic’s ability to fund its commitments. Anthropic warned that Broadcom’s roles as supplier and financier could create conflicts, and that specified defaults could both accelerate lease payments and limit access to the facility.

  • 5Anthropic is expected to become Broadcom’s biggest compute customer in 2027.
  • Reports describe Anthropic’s five-year TPU capacity commitment as either $125 billion or $125.2 billion.
