Shell appoints Standard Chartered as sole adviser for sale of its Nigerian gas business to Vaaris Energy

Shell International Limited entered into an agreement on 13 October 2026 to sell Shell Nigeria Gas Limited to Vaaris Energy Limited. Standard Chartered acted as the sole financial adviser, handling strategy, buyer engagement and transaction documentation. The sale is expected to close in the first half of 2027. The transaction value was not disclosed.

The deal advances Shell’s portfolio optimisation strategy by exiting a non‑core gas distribution asset. Completion will shift ownership of a major Nigerian gas platform to Vaaris Energy, potentially affecting Shell’s future cash flows and balance‑sheet exposure to the region.
