Oklo chosen by DOE to advance Groves 2 Forge isotope production facility

Oklo Inc. was selected by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Nuclear Energy Launch Pad initiative to move forward with its Groves 2 Forge facility. The project will expand the Groves Isotope Test Reactor’s capabilities to produce, process and purify critical isotopes, initially focusing on lutetium‑177 for cancer treatments. DOE’s program includes 12 developers across 13 projects and provides a pathway for domestic reactor and isotope‑fuel cycle development. Oklo’s co‑founder and CEO Jacob DeWitte and DOE Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary Chimi Zacot highlighted the rapid criticality achievement and the private‑public collaboration that enables the next phase.

Oklo says the selection will allow it to transition Groves 2 Forge from pilot operations to commercial‑scale isotope production under U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission licenses, creating a new revenue stream from domestic isotope supply.
