Ardelyx reports fewer gastrointestinal visits after IBSRELA treatment

Ardelyx presented real-world findings at the ACG 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting on October 12, 2026, covering 470 adults with IBS-C who began IBSRELA (tenapanor). Median gastrointestinal-related healthcare visits fell from 4.5 in the preceding year to 3.0 in the subsequent year, with P<0.001. Ardelyx also presented IBS-C quality-of-life research and the design of an ongoing Phase 3 study of tenapanor in adults with chronic idiopathic constipation.

The findings provide additional utilization data for Ardelyx's marketed IBS-C therapy, but the retrospective design does not establish that treatment caused the decline. The ongoing Phase 3 study could provide further evidence for tenapanor in chronic idiopathic constipation, although no results were reported.

  • 1The retrospective analysis covered 470 patients with IBS-C treated at a national gastroenterology practice.
  • 2Median gastrointestinal-related healthcare utilization declined from 4.5 visits in the year before tenapanor began to 3.0 visits in the following year, with P<0.001.
  • 3Ardelyx scheduled a poster on the design and rationale of a Phase 3, 26-week randomized controlled tenapanor study for chronic idiopathic constipation.
  • 4The ACG 2026 presentations also included an analysis linking IBS-C symptom severity with quality of life.
