Nvidia mandates cloud partners to keep at least 51% of services with non‑Chinese customers

Nvidia has instructed its data‑center and cloud partners that, for all new contracts, at least 51% of the services they sell must be to companies outside China. The directive follows a broader compliance push and comes after the chipmaker cut its approved Asian customer list by more than half in July 2026. Nvidia says the rule supports U.S. leadership in artificial‑intelligence infrastructure worldwide.

The company states the measure is intended to safeguard American AI competitiveness by limiting Chinese access to its advanced chips. Analysts note that the restriction could reduce Nvidia’s sales exposure to China and pressure Chinese AI developers who rely on overseas cloud capacity.

  • 1Nvidia requires cloud partners to ensure that at least 51% of service sales are to non‑Chinese firms.
  • 2The requirement applies only to future contracts.
  • 3In July 2026 Nvidia cut its list of approved Asian customers by more than 50%.
