Wolfspeed secures conditional $1.5 billion, 30‑year Department of War loan

Wolfspeed announced a conditional financing commitment of up to $1.5 billion from the U.S. Department of War. The loan is structured for a 30‑year term and may include warrants that allow the Department to acquire up to 7.5% of Wolfspeed’s fully diluted equity. Proceeds are earmarked for expanding silicon‑carbide (SiC) and gallium‑nitride (GaN) production and for upgrading related facilities in North Carolina, New York and Arkansas.

The company says the financing will strengthen its balance sheet, refinance debt and fund technology upgrades, which could improve cash‑flow stability during a critical growth phase. Analysts note that the loan’s equity kicker could dilute existing shareholders if exercised.
