Constellation Energy secures up to $5 billion conditional DOE loan for nuclear uprates

The U.S. Department of Energy announced a conditional commitment to provide Constellation Energy with as much as $5 billion to fund uprates of its existing nuclear plants. The loan is intended to lower financing costs and speed the addition of nuclear capacity, but it remains subject to due‑diligence review, final financing agreements and other required conditions. Constellation’s chairman, president and CEO, Joe Dominguez, said the financing will help the company meet growing demand and support long‑term contracts with customers such as Google and Amazon.

If the loan is finalized, Constellation expects lower capital costs for nuclear uprates, which could improve future earnings and support its growth strategy. The financing also signals federal backing for nuclear expansion, potentially influencing investor sentiment toward the sector.
