Anavex receives FDA clearance for Phase 2a Fragile X trial of blarcamesine

Anavex Life Sciences announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration cleared its Investigational New Drug application for blarcamesine in Fragile X syndrome. The company will launch a Phase 2a, randomized, double‑blind, placebo‑controlled study in approximately 60 adult male patients in the United States. The IND clearance adds Fragile X to the two other core indications—Alzheimer’s disease and Rett syndrome—where Anavex already holds open INDs. Blarcamesine also carries an FDA orphan‑drug designation for this indication.

The clearance permits Anavex to begin enrolling patients, moving the drug toward potential regulatory approval and future revenue streams. Investors will watch trial enrollment and safety data as early indicators of the program’s viability.
