Chinese tech giants place $35 billion order for Nvidia RTX PRO 5500 GPUs

ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent together asked Nvidia for more than three million RTX PRO 5500 graphics cards, a request valued at over $35 billion. Nvidia warned that it can only produce about three million of those chips worldwide by 2027 and expects to deliver only five to ten percent of the requested volume. The cards, priced around $11,400 each, are intended mainly for AI inference workloads that comply with U.S. export rules.

If Nvidia can supply a fraction of the order, the company may record a sizable, but limited, revenue boost in 2027, while the shortfall could leave the Chinese firms to seek alternative suppliers. The order also highlights the pressure on Nvidia’s capacity as U.S. export controls force Chinese customers toward lower‑performance, export‑compliant products.
