Record $6.4 B Binance hack triggers only a 4 % drop in Bitcoin

Binance confirmed a theft of roughly $6.4 billion, the largest crypto hack on record. Bitcoin fell about 4 % to around $76,400, far less than the 11 % plunge seen after a 2018 attack on the same exchange. The muted reaction is attributed to the much larger market size, extensive holdings in U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs and the freezing of a large portion of the stolen assets. Binance has set aside more than $6.34 billion to cover the losses and is buying back missing tokens.

The modest price decline suggests that the expanded market and institutional ETF holdings are dampening panic selling after major security breaches (the company says the market’s resilience is due to these factors,). Investors can expect less immediate volatility from future platform‑level incidents, though the remaining unfrozen assets still pose a risk.
