HSBC names its Hong Kong dollar stablecoin RedCoin ahead of retail launch

HSBC announced that its forthcoming Hong Kong dollar‑backed stablecoin will be called HSBC RedCoin. The bank plans to roll out the token in the second half of 2026, initially through the PayMe app and the HSBC Hong Kong mobile banking application. The launch follows an HKMA stablecoin licence granted in April 2026. A survey of 1,060 local customers showed 74% recognise at least one stablecoin use case.

The introduction of a regulated retail stablecoin expands HSBC’s digital payment services and could increase usage of its PayMe platform. The bank emphasizes security and compliance under the HKMA licence, which may reassure customers and support adoption.
