DOE offers Vistra multi‑billion loan to uprate Ohio and Pennsylvania nuclear plants

The U.S. Department of Energy announced a federal loan to Vistra Corp. for uprating its Perry, Davis‑Besse and Beaver Valley nuclear facilities. Construction could start soon and the upgrades are slated for completion between 2031 and 2034. The loan is conditional on Vistra meeting technical, legal, environmental and financial requirements.

DOE Secretary Chris Wright said the funding will deliver more affordable, reliable power for American families and businesses. Vistra stated the loan will enable uprates that extend the plants’ operations by more than 20 years, increasing electricity output and supporting future revenue.
