POSCO Future M signs KRW 6 trillion long‑term LFP supply deal with Samsung SDI

POSCO Future M and Samsung SDI concluded a long‑term contract worth KRW 6 trillion to provide lithium‑iron‑phosphate cathode material. The agreement, covering 2027‑2032, more than doubles the volume of the August arrangement and adds LMO cathode and artificial‑graphite anode supplies. The deal helps Samsung SDI meet U.S. foreign‑entity‑of‑concern rules, while POSCO Future M gains a predictable demand base for capacity planning.

POSCO Future M says the contract will raise its overall supply to Samsung SDI by roughly 45%, improving utilisation of its production lines. Samsung SDI expects the secured LFP supply to support its growth in the energy‑storage‑system market and to satisfy regulatory requirements for non‑FEOC sources.

  • 1The contract value is KRW 6 trillion (approximately $4.2 billion).
  • 2Supply will run from 2027 through 2032.
  • 3The agreement more than doubles the earlier volume of 190,000 tons of LFP material agreed in August.
  • 4The partnership now also includes lithium‑manganese‑oxide cathode and artificial‑graphite anode materials.
  • 5POSCO Future M expects its total supply volume to Samsung SDI to increase by about 45% compared with previous levels.
  • 6Samsung SDI will use the materials to comply with U.S. FEOC regulations that restrict Chinese‑origin supplies.
