Chinese state-backed Semi‑Tech Leasing finances restricted Nvidia Blackwell chip purchases for AI infrastructure

Semi‑Tech Leasing Group Co., a financing firm controlled by municipal governments in Shenzhen and Beijing, provided capital for Glory View Technology to buy restricted Nvidia B300 Blackwell AI chips. The deal covered more than 700 servers, including 32 Asustek servers equipped with the chips, and the hardware was installed in a China Mobile data centre in Ningxia. Nvidia and Asustek said they are investigating the transactions. The financing highlights gaps in U.S. export controls on advanced AI hardware.

Nvidia said it is looking into the report and will work with its OEM customer to investigate, which may affect the company's compliance reputation and expose it to regulatory scrutiny.
