Kinsale reports lower Q3 GAAP earnings as premium growth slows

Kinsale Capital Group reported third-quarter 2026 net income of $98.1 million, or diluted EPS of $4.36, versus $141.6 million and $6.09 a year earlier. Diluted operating EPS reached $5.70, while gross written premiums were $462.9 million and net earned premiums were $423.5 million. A $37.6 million pretax loss from repositioning the investment portfolio reduced the GAAP result, while underwriting income was $107.1 million and the combined ratio was 75.4%.

The portfolio repositioning widened the gap between GAAP and operating earnings, while the quarter's underwriting and investment-income figures show the mechanical effects of slower premium growth and stronger investment returns. Kinsale also returned $100 million to shareholders through repurchases, according to the company.
