Schneider Electric to acquire PTC for $22.6 billion

Schneider Electric announced it will buy industrial software maker PTC for US$22.6 billion, the largest transaction in its history. The deal adds CAD, PLM and other engineering tools to Schneider’s portfolio and is aimed at strengthening its industrial AI offering. CEO Olivier Pascal Blum said the acquisition will help bridge the physical and digital worlds for customers. Financing will be provided through US$6 billion of equity and US$17 billion of debt.

The company expects the purchase to expand its software and services business, which already contributed 18% of its Q2 revenue, and to accelerate growth in industrial AI. Analysts note that the added capabilities could improve Schneider’s competitive position in the digital transformation market.
