Johnson & Johnson unveils positive 12‑month results for its pulsed field ablation platforms at APHRS 2026

Johnson & Johnson presented data from two late‑breaking studies at the Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society meeting. The VARIPURE study of the VARIPULSE Pro platform showed 100% acute procedural success in 225 European patients with a 0.4% primary adverse‑event rate and a mean ablation time of 17.9 minutes. The Omny‑IRE study of the investigational OMNYPULSE platform reported 82.5% freedom from atrial‑arrhythmia recurrence at 12 months in 136 patients, with a 2.9% adverse‑event rate and a 25.5‑point improvement in quality‑of‑life scores.

The company says the results strengthen clinical evidence for its pulsed‑field ablation portfolio and could accelerate adoption of the VARIPULSE Pro and OMNYPULSE systems. Medtronic also disclosed comparable data, which may influence competitive positioning in the electrophysiology market.

  • 1The VARIPURE study evaluated 225 patients treated across 19 European centers.
  • 2VARIPULSE Pro achieved 100% acute procedural success.
  • 3One primary adverse event occurred (0.4%) and was resolved without sequelae.
  • 4Mean ablation duration was 17.9 minutes.
  • 5The Omny‑IRE study evaluated 136 patients with symptomatic paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.
  • 682.5% of Omny‑IRE patients were free from documented atrial‑arrhythmia recurrence at 12 months under stringent monitoring.
