Binance suspects massive hack, freezes billions and pauses withdrawals

Binance announced a potential security breach after billions of dollars were transferred out of its hot wallets on 29 Oct 2026. The exchange said about $3 billion in assets have been frozen and withdrawals were temporarily halted while it works with law‑enforcement. Stablecoin issuers Tether and Circle together froze roughly $2.4 billion of USDT and USDC linked to the incident. Binance’s co‑founder Changpeng Zhao called the episode “looks like a hack” and said the company will cover any user losses.

The freeze of $3 billion reduces available liquidity on the world’s largest crypto exchange, pressuring prices of Bitcoin, BNB and other assets. Investors should monitor Binance’s forthcoming loss estimate and the timeline for resuming withdrawals, as the outcome will affect market confidence and trading volumes.
