GM’s Monster 8.3L Duramax Just Took The Power And Torque Crown From Ford

General Motors (GM) is introducing an 8.3L Duramax diesel engine, named Mongoose, for its trucks, aiming to reclaim dominance in the diesel market. The company has also launched new 6.7L, 5.7L, and 6.6L V8 engines, signaling a return to its roots in high-displacement engines. GM's strategy focuses on performance and reliability, addressing stagnation in its core lineup.

GM unveiled updates for its 2027 heavy-duty truck lineup, including a new Duramax 8.3L Turbo-Diesel V8 engine with 555 hp and 1,230 lb-ft of torque. The trucks feature segment-first technologies like rack-and-pinion Electric Power Steering and an electronic brake-boost system. The updates aim to strengthen GM's position in the heavy-duty truck market, with the new diesel engine and enhanced 6.6L gas V8 paired with an Allison 10-speed transmission.
