Maine’s biggest dam owner faces reckoning after another Penobscot River fish kill
A July 27 Ripogenus Dam turbine shutdown on Maine’s Penobscot River, caused by a broken transmission line cross-arm, followed a similar 2023 incident and triggered calls for tighter regulation. According to Bangor Daily News review of complaints, Brookfield Renewable is in relicensing and faces allegations of poor maintenance and wildlife impacts. Brookfield says it invested nearly $3 million in transmission work and reports likely aquatic impacts.
