Mike Pyle, deputy head of BlackRock’s portfolio management group and a former top economic adviser in the Biden and Obama administrations, said investors should focus on how quickly AI affects jobs, not just the potential magnitude. He cited recent layoffs and staffing cuts at companies including Block, Amazon, Oracle, Coinbase, Cloudflare, and Meta.
Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince said AI can now “measure” organisations more objectively than many employees, potentially reducing middle-management and “measurer” roles. He added that engineers and sales teams may be relatively secure near term. Cloudflare cited its growing use of agentic AI tools for layoffs, despite record revenue growth and a larger customer base.
Microsoft has begun reducing employee access to Anthropic’s Claude Code and directing engineers toward GitHub Copilot CLI, according to multiple reports, as enterprise AI coding usage has raised operational costs. The reports say Microsoft’s broader partnership with Anthropic remains, including its multibillion-dollar Foundry agreement and Azure access to Claude models. Token-based pricing is cited as a key cost driver.
