Seven & i Holdings and Seven-Eleven Japan partnered with SoftBank, PayPay, LY Corporation and Sumitomo Mitsui Card to link 7-Eleven’s store network with digital payments and AI services. Seven & i said it formed equity ties with SoftBank, PayPay and Sumitomo Mitsui Card, with 7iD integrating with PayPay accounts and points interoperability at stores.

PayPay (NasdaqGS:PAYP) said it is expanding a Japan retail payments alliance with Seven & i Holdings, SEVEN-ELEVEN JAPAN, SoftBank and LY Corporation. The partners plan to link user IDs, integrate PayPay Points across 7-Eleven, and have PayPay develop the Seven-Eleven app, aiming to expand cashless payments and data-driven services. PayPay shares were $15.67, up 5.6% weekly and down 13.7% YTD.

Seven & i Holdings said it secured Y300bn ($1.91bn) via a third-party allotment of treasury shares, with SoftBank, PayPay and Sumitomo Mitsui Card each subscribing Y100bn for 48.30 million common shares. The capital supports partnerships linking 7-Eleven Japan’s 20,000+ stores with partners’ digital platforms, including plans to link 7iD with PayPay accounts.

Seven & i Holdings said it will receive 300 billion yen ($1.9 billion) from SoftBank, PayPay and Sumitomo Mitsui Card, with each investing 100 billion yen for a 2.27% stake. The deal will integrate customer IDs between Seven & i and PayPay to build a loyalty ecosystem across 100 million+ users, and combine store operations with AI and robotics know-how.

PayPay Corp said it will form a strategic and capital alliance with Seven & i Holdings and its Seven-Eleven Japan unit, alongside SoftBank and LY Corp. PayPay and SoftBank will subscribe for Seven & i shares via a third-party allotment of treasury shares. The partners plan to integrate 7iD with PayPay ID, launch PayPay Points, and develop a Seven-Eleven app, using shared data and promotions.

Seven & i also announced a 400 billion yen share buyback. The moves follow profit pressure and a failed Couche-Tard takeover attempt.

Seven & i Holdings and PayPay are considering integrating Seven & i’s 7iD customer ID with PayPay ID, according to sources. The plan would combine data from about 22,000 Seven-Eleven stores and roughly 74 million PayPay users to improve demand prediction and personalized offers. Seven & i is also in talks for about 300 billion yen investment involving SoftBank, PayPay and Sumitomo Mitsui Card.

Seven & I Holdings and PayPay are reportedly in final talks to merge their loyalty and customer ID platforms, linking Seven & I’s 7iD system with PayPay’s user base to create a database of 100 million-plus members, according to Nikkei Asia. The deal is expected to be announced with a capital alliance, with SoftBank and PayPay each planning about ¥100 billion investments. No public confirmation yet.

According to Nikkei, PayPay and Seven & i Holdings are in final negotiations to integrate their customer data to combine loyalty programs. PayPay is backed by SoftBank Group. The report also says Seven & i is in talks to receive an investment from SoftBank Corp. and its affiliate PayPay.
