The current state of PCIe 6.0 SSDs and controllers — Marvell, Phison, and SMI prepare controllers as drives finally come to market following years of delays
The PCIe 6.0 spec was ratified in early 2022 but delayed. First Gen6 platforms are nearing commercialization, with Micron PCIe 6 SSDs in mid-2025 and Samsung in July. Marvell, Phison, and Silicon Motion are preparing Gen6 controllers. PCIe 6 uses PAM4, enabling ~30.25 GB/s x4 throughput. Marvell’s Bravera SC6 (MV-SF1410) targets NVMe 2.2, PCIe 6.0 x4, and up to ~500TB-class drives, with sampling planned for Q4 2026.
