Rio Tinto reports strong Q3 2026 production with copper up 29% YTD and iron ore sales rise

Rio Tinto said its Oyu Tolgoi copper output was 29% higher year‑to‑date and the quarter produced 205,000 tonnes of copper. Global iron‑ore sales rose 3% YTD to 255.3 million tonnes and third‑quarter sales reached 85.7 million tonnes. The Simandou project hit an annualised run‑rate of about 10 million tonnes, and the company announced more than $2 billion of capital release while staying on track for a $1.8 billion productivity benefit by year‑end.

The higher copper output and iron‑ore sales improve revenue expectations for 2026, while the capital‑release and productivity‑benefit targets signal cost‑saving potential that could boost margins, according to the company’s own statements.
