BP flags $3‑4.5 bn Q3 impairments and sharp net‑debt reduction

BP said its third‑quarter 2026 results will include a post‑tax impairment charge of $3 billion to $4.5 billion, mainly from its gas and low‑carbon energy segment. The company also expects net debt to fall to $13.5 billion‑$14.5 billion, down from $22.3 billion at the end of the second quarter, as it redeems hybrid securities and releases working capital. Upstream output is guided at 2,190‑2,240 kboe/d and refining margins are projected at $46.70 per barrel. Full Q3 results are scheduled for 30 October 2026.

The impairment charge will depress Q3 earnings, while the debt reduction improves BP’s balance‑sheet strength. Higher refining margins should partially offset the earnings hit.
