U.S. Homeland Security purchases two California detention facilities from GEO Group for $950 million

The Department of Homeland Security acquired two immigrant detention sites in Adelanto, California, paying $950 million to the GEO Group. The properties include the 1,940‑bed Adelanto ICE Processing Center and the 704‑bed Desert View Annex. GEO will keep operating the centers under its existing ICE contract that runs until Dec. 19, 2034. The company said the transaction will generate $705 million in net proceeds.

GEO Group said it will apply the $705 million of net proceeds to reduce its debt and to repurchase its shares, which could improve its balance sheet and support the stock price.
