Card surcharges are ending soon. But the shake-up could come at a cost
Australia will end credit/debit card surcharges from 1 October, saving consumers $1.6B annually. Banks may raise fees and reduce perks. Interchange fees will cap at 0.3%. Small businesses expect savings of $910M. Westpac, ANZ, HSBC, MyCard, BOQ, NAB, and Commonwealth Bank are adjusting offers/fees.
