Disney said it will open Monstropolis, a Monsters, Inc.-themed land at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios, in 2027. The area will replace Muppets Courtyard and Muppet*Vision 3D and include a suspended roller coaster with a 40-foot launch, plus venues like Harryhausen’s, a sushi and pizza shop, Monsters University, and the Scare Emporium. Disney also previewed the “Welcome to Monstropolis” song by Randy Newman.

Disney+ and Hulu will stream video editions of six iHeartPodcasts titles under a distribution deal announced Aug. 10, 2026. The rollout starts Aug. 14 with “Hey Jonas!” and continues weekly through early November. Disney+ carries “Hey Jonas!” and “Pod Meets World,” while Hulu carries four other titles. Financial terms and advertising details were not disclosed.

At D23 in Anaheim, The Walt Disney Company unveiled upcoming entertainment projects across film, TV, streaming and live stage. Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro highlighted its parks, cruises and global audience. Disney confirmed “Zootopia 3” in early development and previewed “Avengers: Doomsday” for December. Disney also extended its “Fuel the Magic” F1 tie-up through 2028 and announced D23 Asia in Singapore in 2027.

At D23, Walt Disney Imagineering executives Bruce Vaughn and Caroline May detailed Walt Disney World’s upcoming Magic Kingdom expansion, Villains Land. Disney Parks Blog says the land will feature two attractions: a Maleficent roller coaster and the Mirror Realm dark ride. The storyline centers on a corrupted wishing well and villains claiming power, with the land behind Big Thunder Mountain.

Disney announced at D23 that Oswald the Lucky Rabbit will get a three-part live-action animated miniseries on Disney+, written, directed and executive-produced by Jon Favreau. The cast includes Albert Brooks, Amy Sedaris, Kathryn Hahn, Steve Martin and others. Oswald’s rights returned to Disney in 2006 via a trade with NBCUniversal. The series is due Feb. 2027.

Disney+ has ended development of a planned live action Power Rangers series, according to Deadline, after about 1.5 years. The project, developed with 20th Television and written by Jonathan E Steinberg and Dan Shotz, was shelved before production. Reported reasons include high production costs and Disney+ not owning the Power Rangers IP, which Hasbro owns.

Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro said in a CNBC interview that Disney will move toward a “single account” linking Disney+ viewing with Disney parks and trip planning, including Walt Disney World. Disney previously said Disney+ is an “immersive interactive digital centerpiece” and expects digital and physical businesses to become more connected. The privacy notice and existing policies outline broad data collection and user rights.

Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro, in his first CNBC interview since taking over, said after his first full quarter the company is seeing revenue growth and 28% earnings growth, with parks delivering a “surprise” and streaming expanding margins. He outlined priorities including faster execution, technology, “one Disney,” and using Disney+ and park data to raise lifetime value. Disney stock is down 11% YoY.
