Vivid Seats CEO Lawrence Fey, on the company’s Q2 earnings call, criticized Washington, D.C.’s RESALE Act, which caps concert and theater resale prices at 120% of face value plus fees and excludes sports. Fey said Vivid Seats does not expect near-term financial impact due to limited jurisdictions and delayed implementation. Similar laws passed in Maine and Vermont; California shelved a comparable bill.

California’s Senate Appropriations Committee did not advance AB 1720, the “California Fans First Act,” which would have capped ticket resale prices at 10% above face value. The bill was opposed by StubHub, which reportedly spent “millions” on lobbying. Support included NIVA and music industry groups, with Live Nation also backing the measure.

Vivid Seats (SEAT) reported Q2 2026 results on an earnings call. Marketplace GOV rose to $659.4 million, revenue to $129.9 million, and adjusted EBITDA to $12.6 million, helped by FIFA World Cup demand. The company revised FY2026 GOV guidance to $2.3-$2.6 billion and adjusted EBITDA to $34-$40 million, and renewed its revolving credit facility.

Ontario’s ticket resale price cap, passed in the 2026 budget, is entering an enforcement phase. The province says 32 staff are assigned to resale enforcement and more will be redeployed ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Toronto. The cap bars resale above original purchase price, with fines of $3,000 to $250,000. Ontario has sent inspection letters to StubHub and SeatGeek, while Ticketmaster introduced temporary pricing limits and waived seller fees.
