Union Pacific says more than 500 customers back proposed $85B Norfolk Southern deal amid opposition
Union Pacific (UP) reports over 500 customers support its proposed $85B merger with Norfolk Southern (NS), citing benefits like improved market access and supply chain reliability. UP claims 23 new shippers have highlighted advantages of a single, integrated coast-to-coast rail network. However, the deal faces opposition from shipper groups and six state attorney generals, who argue it lacks sufficient information and could reduce competition, increasing costs for businesses and consumers.
